Why I do this work

My mother is the reason I will not let another family walk into this unprepared.

I have watched my mother look around her own living room and tell me she wants to go home.

She is home. The pictures on the wall are hers. The chair she is sitting in is the one she picked out years ago. But the disease has taken that from her, and there is nothing I can say in that moment that will bring it back.

I have seen her get angry — really angry — at the people who love her most. I have seen her become aggressive with the very hands trying to help her. I have helped change her. I have helped put a diaper on the woman who raised me, fed me, drove me to practice, and taught me how to be a man. I have watched her independence — the thing she was most proud of — slip away one piece at a time.

I have spent hours every single day caring for her. Hours that her grandchildren did not get. Hours my wife absorbed without complaint. Hours my work had to bend around. And I am one of the lucky ones — I have the financial knowledge, the resources, and the family support to do this. Most families do not. Most families are blindsided.

Long-term care is not a financial problem. It is a family problem that costs money, time, sleep, marriages, careers, and pieces of your soul you did not know you could lose.

Nobody warned my family. Nobody sat us down 10 or 15 years before we needed it and said, "Here is what this could look like, here is what it could cost, and here is how we make sure your mom keeps her dignity and your family stays whole." That conversation never happened — because nobody made it happen.

That is the conversation I have now, every week, with families who still have time. I do this work so that someone else's son does not have to learn what I learned at the kitchen table at 2 a.m. I do this work so that someone else's daughter does not have to choose between her job, her kids, and her mother. I do this work so that the financial side of this is handled before the emotional side arrives — because the emotional side will arrive, and it will arrive harder than you can imagine.

If I can spare one family one ounce of what mine has carried, this whole career was worth it.

Books on mindset and growth

Michael’s path into financial services began while he was traveling nationwide for ADP, training financial advisors on essential brokerage software systems. During one of those sessions, a branch manager recognized Michael’s natural ability to connect with advisors and clients and offered him a position on the spot. That opportunity led to roles with Prudential Securities and eventually to independence.

Today, Michael meets regularly with people who are anxious about retirement and helps them navigate practical decisions using a wide range of strategies and tools. He is known for understanding financial products deeply and matching those tools to each client’s unique situation rather than rushing into one-size-fits-all suggestions.

Throughout his career, Michael has qualified for MDRT during his insurance-focused years, mentored rising financial professionals, and built long-lasting relationships that often began as client relationships.
