Product guarantees
Guarantees depend on the terms of the contract, the selected payout option, and the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. Annuities may include surrender charges, liquidity restrictions, fees, and inflation risk, and not every annuity provides lifetime income. Life insurance policy loans accrue interest; loans and withdrawals reduce available cash value and death benefits, excessive borrowing can cause a policy to lapse, and a lapse with outstanding gains or loans may create tax consequences. Modified endowment contract rules may change tax treatment.
Medicare and long-term care
